Schick traces its origins to the inventive U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Jacob Schick. Since its inception in 1921, it’s been a company of firsts in the razor industry. In 1963 it became the first U.S. manufacturer to sell stainless steel blades coated with Teflon. Five years later, Schick pioneered another innovation when scientists succeeded in depositing a thin layer of chromium to the blade edge, making it more durable.
Modern-day Schick was the first company to develop a comfort or lubricating strip located on the cap above the blades. Their latest entry the XTreme3 brand of razors comes to us with 3 blades that flex and pivot like no other system, and conforms to the unique shape of every face. Being a fan of disposable razors, (reformed BIC Original razor) I believe the engineers at Schick nailed this one; a great 3 blade razor with less cost of the Mach 3.
The Xtreme 3 is light-weight, easy to hold onto, and gave me a smooth tight, shave the first time I used it! I have to admit, I was skeptical of the “flex and pivot” blade until I reached my Adam’s apple. For the first time that I can remember, I successfully shaved this trouble spot without a razor burn. As with all disposables, their light weight is an issue.
Schick Xtreme3 Comfort Plus Features
- Dual Comfort
- Aloe & Pre-Shave Oil
- The only triple blade disposable razor with pre & post shave lubricants for a close, more comfortable shave.
- Rubber Grip for extreme comfort
- The only disposable razor with 3 blades that flex and pivot
You just wish it was more substantial. We all know that if they were made of metal and felt like a razor should they wouldn’t be called “disposable.” They would also cost more. If you’re a hard core Mach 3 user, the price difference between the XTreme and Mach 3 is just not worth the switch. All in all the XTreme3 is a solid buy especially for disposable users.
If you are a Mach 3 user the XTreme’s flex and pivot blade is unique and worth consideration, especially if you’ve had troubles with razor-burn or bumps in the past. I for one was left with a close comfortable shave. Say goodbye to the BIC and hello to the XTreme.
